Civil protection, urban resilience and training of volunteers: the best practices of the CPMODEL and EVANDE projects, Brussels, 6/12/2016

The outcomes of EVANDE project are going to be presented in Brussels on the 6th of December 2016, together with the results of another Civil Protection project of the NHMC, the CPMODEL.
Presentation will take place at the premises of the Region of Crete, at Shuman Sq near the EC buildings at 10:00.
We would like to thank the Region of Crete for providing its facilities in Brussels and supporting our activities.

National Meeting on Natural Disasters and Civil Protection, Arenzano (GE), Italy 18/11/16

The National Meeting on “Natural Disasters: the role of volunteers and local communities” will take place in Arenzano (Genova), Italy on 18/11/2016. The event is organized by the Beigua UNESCO Global Geopark with the support of local Authorities and the Liguria Regional Council of Geologists.
The meeting will present the results of the European civil protection projects EVANDE, but also the recent initiatives about civil protection mechanism and organization at a national and local level.

European Meeting on Disaster Risk Mitigation and 4th Management Meeting of EVANDE project, 13-14/10/2016

The 4th Management Meeting of EVANDE project and the European Meeting on the Mitigation of Risks were implemented with great success last week at the Natural history Museum of Crete.

The European Meeting was organised on the 13th of October 2016 together with another CP EU project of NHMC, the CPMODEL, on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day for Risk Reduction. Several invited speakers such as Mrs V. Silvestri from the National Italian Civil Protection Office, Mr D. Kaliviotis from the Greek General Secretariat for CP, Mr G. Xanthopoulos from the Mediterranean Forest Institution of Hellenic Agriculture Organisation “DEMETER”, Mr R.V. Quesada from Valencia CP volunteers section, partners from the two organising projects, many representatives from the Regional and Local authorities, CP staff, and many volunteers attended the very interesting meeting.

The speakers and participants shared their experiences on the CP mechanisms in their countries, the implementation of risk mitigation actions, as well as the outputs and results from the implementation of EVANDE and CPMODEL projects at their countries. During the afternoon, volunteers and CP staff participated in training workshops on the use of EVANDE’s e-learning platform as well as on the testing of the e-games that have been developed.

The 4th project meeting of EVANDE took place on the 14th October 2016. During the meeting, partners discussed on the implementation of the project’s actions that have past, the remaining dissemination and training activities, as well as project’s follow up.

It was a great pleasure for NHMC to organise these meetings and host so many participants from different countries and perspectives.

European Meeting and Workshop on Disaster Risk Mitigation, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, 13/10/16

The European Meeting and Workshop on Disaster Risk Mitigation will take place in Heraklion, Crete, Greece on 13/10/2016. The event will be organized during the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
It aims to present the results of the European civil protection projects EVANDE and CP-Model, in which the Natural History Museum of Crete-University of Crete is participating.

International Volunteers’ Meeting, 3-4/6/2016, Città di Castello, Assisi, Bastia-Italy

The International Volunteers’ Meeting gathered around 40 participants from Greece, Italy, Spain and Bulgaria in Città di Castello, Italy on 3rd and 4th of June 2016, at the headquarters of the Centro Studi Villa Montesca, which is one of the EVANDE project partners. The aim of the meeting was to offer an opportunity for the exchange of experiences among the civil protection volunteers coming from the EVANDE partner countries.

The first day, on 3rd of June 2016, each national group of volunteers presented its work, focusing on issues such as organizational structure, main activities, training methods, communication, partnerships, etc. The coordinators of each partner country offered also a short introduction on the national civil protection system in place aiming to clarify the framework where these volunteering groups are active in. Mr. Francesco Nocchi, presented also the system of civil protection under operation in the Municipality of Città di Castello. Following the morning sessions, a guided visit to the Operational Centre of Civil Protection of the Città di Castello Municipality was organized.

The second day, on 4th of June 2016, the group of volunteers and the EVANDE project staff were offered a guided tour to the Assisi Basilica by the restorer Mr.Sergio Fusetti. Mr. Fusetti talked about the human losses occurred and the material damages that have happened on the Assisi Basilica during the several earthquakes. In addition, he explained how the high-scale restoration efforts were coordinated in order to maintain the historical heritage, unique in the world, which is present in the Basilica of Assisi. In continuance, the group of participants visited the “Expoemergenze” National Exhibition on Security and Emergency in Bastia Umbra. During the exhibition, an evening session was offered to the visitors, where the civil protection volunteers presented indicative examples of their emergency intervention at local levels. Furthermore, Mr. Alfiero Moretti and Mr. Francesco Lucaroni, officers of the civil protection sector of the Umbria Region presented the legal, structural and operational framework of civil protection at regional level.

On their return, the civil protection volunteers that attended the meeting will participate in the training activities of the EVANDE project, particularly on the use of the e-learning platform. Local dissemination events will follow in each country as well, in order to disseminate the information and knowledge acquired during the meeting to other local civil protection volunteers.

3rd Project Meeting

The 3rd management meeting of the EVANDE project took place from 7th to 8th of April 2016 at the headquarters of “Center for Educational Initiatives” in Sofia, Bulgaria. The participants were from all partners as well as staff and collaborators of “Centre for Educational Initiatives”, that are engaged in the project implementation. During the meeting a training workshop on the use of the blended learning e-platform was organized for the EVANDE staff members by the Technical University of Crete, Greece. Furthermore, partners planned the future project actions, including the publication of the project booklets (on earthquakes, floods, wild fires and European civil protection policies), the International Volunteers’ Meeting in Bastia, Italy (to be done in June 2016), the national training activities on the use of the e-learning platform, the organization of the location-based e-game and other dissemination and evaluation activities. In addition, the participants were guided to the Sofia Municipality Emergency Centre by the Municipality Officials.

2nd Project Meeting

The 2nd management meeting of the EVANDE project took place from 23rd to 25th September 2015 at the headquarters of “Consorci De La Ribera” in Alzira, Spain. The participants were from all partners as well as staff and collaborators of “Consorci De La Ribera”, that are engaged in the project implementation. All participants evaluated the project’s progress concerning the collection, filtering and elaboration of the material needed for the production of the educational deliverables and the creation of the web-platform for the e-learning courses. Moreover, they developed a detailed plan for the future project actions. In addition, the participants were guided in the local area to get to know indicative initiatives for the promotion of the sustainable development, which are undertaken by the local authorities.
